- EZINES (a.ka. newsletters)
- An ezine is a newsletter that is available via email or
online. It is also known as an Email Magazine, Online Publication or Electronic
Newsletter.
Companies often use ezines to keep in touch with their customers, inform them of new
products, special offers, etc. ezines can be published completely free of charge and
you can also (if you have enough subscribers) sell advertising space in your ezine.
People normally subscribe to your ezine by sending a blank email to your subscribe email
address or by filling out a form on your web site.

| DESIGN
TIPS |
- Naming your ezine
Giving your ezine the right name is important. The name should relate to the topic
of the ezine, but should also start with a letter "early" in the alphabet, like
A instead of S, because some Directoris will list an ezine in alphabetical order.
-
- Content
Normally, it's a good idea to focus your ezine on a subject in which you have lots of
knowledge or experience. Your ezine should have some original content, like your own
articles, tips and tricks, etc. You can also publish other people's articles in your
ezine, free of charge.
Schedule
You can publish your ezine on a weekly or monthly basis. It is important that you
publish regularly - if you publish your ezine weekly, publish every week and don't skip
it. Subscribers like to read an ezine that is published regularly and on time.
Format
You can publish your ezine in normal text format or as an HTML page. A very
important factor to remember is that not everybody uses the same email program. What
may look perfect in Outlook Express may not look so good in Eudora. To accommodate
all your subscribers, you can publish your ezine in text format only, like a normal text
email. The line-length of the text should be kept to a maximum of 60 characters per
line. After every 60 characters, press the Enter key and continue on the next
line. The reason for this is because some email programs will cut your text line off
it it's too long, and force it to move to the next line. You may have a full
sentence on one line and just 3 words on the next line. This looks untidy. You
can use a program like Notepad to create a template, and then reuse it each time.
What size?
The size of your ezine really depends on you. Some subscribers prefer short ezines
and others, long ezines. It really all depends on the type of content and quality
of your ezine. Just keep in mind that if your ezine is too long, some service
providers may convert it into a file attachment. If you ezine is really long,
consider splitting it into parts, like Part 1 and Part 2.

| CONTENT |
| You can
publish other people's articles free of charge in your ezine and include the latest
updated news and information by using Content Providers. When using someone else's content
or articles, always first get permission from the author. Most articles are for
free use, provided that you don't edit the article and you must give the writer credit.
Your ezine should at least have some original content, i.e.: you can write about a topic
that you have experience in. |
